Toyota Hilux Shackles
Shackles are the narrow, metal, strip-like pieces that attach one side of your leaf springs to the vehicle. Shackles are responsible for keeping the leaf spring in contact with the frame while allowing the spring to flex and compress. This allows necessary movement of the axles to keep all four tires on the ground. Hilux shackles have rubber or urethane bushings at their mounting points to allow them to move freely without squeeking. To eliminate wear, some Hilux shackles also feature greasable bushings. All Hilux vehicles came from the factory with at least two shackles (located at the rear of the vehicle on IFS models) or four shackles on solid front axle models. The shackles were a fixed length that provided the height that the vehicle sat at. Installing longer shackles on your Hilux is a fast and very inexpensive way to add lift.
